Religious Education for Children

Our Religious Education program is small, but growing. In September 2011, the program was expanded to two classes, one for smaller children and one for those in middle and high school. The program is offered the first three Sundays each month, September through June.

Two teachers will be present at each class. The focus is a search for what is right and true. The children learn not only about Unitarianism but about all religions of the world. The precepts for our program are spelled out below.

Helping Adults Better Understand

UU's believe in the lifelong search for truth and meaning. On the first Sunday of each month during our church year, one of our members leads a discussion on Unitarianism and other current topics in what we call our First Sunday Forum. It meets at 9:30 am. These sessions are open to everyone. You do not need to make advance reservations. This is an excellent way to learn more about what Unitarian Universalism is all about. We also have a variety of pamphlets on Unitarianism available at our Welcome Desk in the foyer.

Guidelines for Religious Education for UUCG

In Religious Education, we think we can help you add something to your children's lives. We want to help you give your children a grounding in a wonderful liberal religion. The RE curriculum at Unitarian Universalists of Coastal Georgia emphasizes the Unitarian Universalist principles of:

  1. The importance of each and every person.
  2. The fair and kind treatment of all people.
  3. The acceptance of one another through learning together.
  4. The freedom to search for what is right and true in life.
  5. Voting about the things that concern us.
  6. Working for a peaceful, fair and free world.
  7. Caring for our planet earth.

These ideas come from many places:

  1. The sense of wonder we all share.
  2. Women and men of long ago whose lives remind us to be kind.
  3. Ethical and spiritual widom of the world's religions.
  4. Jewish and Christian teachings which tell us to love all others as we love ourselves.
  5. The use of reason and the discoveries of science.
  6. The harmony of nature and the sacred circle of life.

RE classes will begin the second Sunday of September and continue through May services, excluding the Children's Service in December and Poetry Sunday in February. A head RE teacher will be employed for the 15 Sundays and will be accompanied by a volunteer each Sunday. At no time will there be fewer than two adults to supervise the Re classes.
